The Human Services Department offers
confidential aide to residents of Windham in need. Services provided to
qualified individuals may include financial assistance, food vouchers,
or referral to related state agencies.

Is there a Senior Center in Windham and what hours
are they open?

Yes. The Windham Senior Center is open Tuesdays and
Thursdays for lunch and card games and bingo. The Senior Center is
located at 2 North Lowell Road. The Senior Center also has walkers,
wheelchairs and other equipment that they loan to residents. Call
the Senior Center at 434-2411, if no answer, please leave a
message.
Are there activities offered for Seniors through any
other organizations?

Yes. Recreation offers a variety of activities and
trips throughout the year. Cheryl Haas, Recreation Coordinator, can
be reached at 965-1208 for more information. Events are also
announced in local papers and on the Town’s website.
Can meals be delivered daily?
-
Yes. Meals can be delivered Monday thru Friday by
Meals on Wheels. Call the Salem office at 893-2137 to set an
appointment to discuss delivery and any special dietary needs.
Is there any help with heating costs?

Yes. Fuel Assistance Program is handled through
Rockingham Community Action in Salem. The program begins September
1st and ends April 30th each year. To apply, call 898-8435 from
September to April. When applying for Fuel Assistance, ask about
your eligibility for a lower electric rate (Electrical Assistance
Program) and the Weatherization Program.
Is there a food pantry in Windham?

Yes. The Shepherd’s Pantry is located at the
Windham Presbyterian Church and is open on Mondays from 10 to 11
am.
Is there a service that has information on all
services available for seniors and adults with disabilities?

Yes. ServiceLink is a statewide network of locally
administered, community-based resources. ServiceLink can be reached
at 1-866 634-9412 or on the web at

Is transportation available for doctor’s appointments
and shopping?

Yes. The Town has a shopping trip to Wal-Mart on
Wednesday mornings each week, weather permitting and also provides
rides to doctor appointment, dependent on volunteer driver
availability. Call the Town Administrative Office at 432-7732 to
schedule rides.

Also, there is a regional service available called
CART which provides rides for any resident for medical appointments,
shopping trips, visit or other reasons for a charge of $2.00 each
way. To schedule trips call 434-3569.

Directions to the Human Services Department
from I-93 North or South: Exit 3, left onto Route 111W. Straight through
two sets of lights, at Shaws and the Village Green. First right onto
Church Street. Administration is on the left immediately after Town
Common; parking accessed from Church Street.
