Our Sister City, Suzdal, Russia

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2002

Suzdal Visit May 9-20, 2002

In May 2002, Barbara Coish and Bette Williams made a springtime visit to our Sister City. During this visit, in addition to spending time with friends we delivered aid to the children of orphanages #3 and #5. During the visit there we were able to see a little girl who with her younger sister was about to be adopted to the United States. We have kept in touch with this lovely family upon our return.

An exciting new event was a trip Ivanova to meet folks who teach at the University for training of lawyers. This is an example of how our sphere of friends grows with each additional trip to Russia.

The grand opening of a renovated hotel called Sokol was a special treat for us to attend.

We visited the Art College in Suzdal and saw the students who are recreating costumes of centuries past and saw silversmiths restoring ancient icons.

We presented the Fire Chief, his son and son- in- law, also firefighters, with caps commemorating the brave firefighters of NYFD- 9/11/01.

Springtime is a beautiful season in Suzdal. There are lilacs and many dandelions covering the fields. No matter what season we visit Suzdal, we are welcomed as family by old and new friends alike.
